1998 JCAHO Hospital Standards

313 Ongoing religious body endorsement is documented. RI.1.3 The hospital demonstrates respect for the following patient needs:

RI.1.3.5 pastoral care and other spiritual services;

RI.1.3.6 communication.

PF.1 The patient’s learning needs, abilities, preferences, and readiness to learn are assessed.

PF.1.1 The assessment considers cultural and religious practices, emotional barriers, desire and motivation to learn, physical and cognitive limitations, language barriers, and financial implications of care choices.

314 Staff demonstrates ability to minister with persons of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. HR.1 The hospital’s leaders define the qualifications and performance expectations for all staff positions.

HR.2 The hospital provides an adequate number of staff members whose qualifications are consistent with job responsibilities.

HR.3 The leaders ensure that the competence of all staff members is assessed, maintained, demonstrated, and improved continually.

HR.5 The hospital assesses each staff member’s ability to meet the performance expectations stated in his or her job description.

RI.1.3 The hospital demonstrates respect for the following patient needs:

RI.1.3.5 pastoral care and other spiritual services.

315 The staff adheres to professional codes of ethics. RI.4 The hospital operates according to a code of ethical behavior.
